Brahmos becomes World’s First Super-sonic Missile which can be launched from Air, Water and Land:
Brahmos, the world’s fastest supersonic cruise missile today created history after it was successfully flight-tested for the first time from the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) frontline fighter aircraft Sukhoi-30MKI against a sea-based target in the Bay of Bengal.
Brahmos, the world-class weapon with multi-platform, multi-mission role is now capable of being launched from land, sea and air, completing the tactical cruise missile triad for India. With the successful test firing, it has become the first weapon system in the world to have such capability.
It is a joint venture between DRDO of India and NPOM of Russia. As of now, there is no such weapon available which can be fired from land, sea and air platforms.
After 37 years Rule, Robert Mugabe Regina as President of Zimbabwe:
Robert Mugabe resigned as president of Zimbabwe on Tuesday, ending his 37-year reign of brutality and autocratic control.
Mugabe had to resign within days of a military takeover.
The ousted Vice-president, Emmerson Mnangagwa to become the next President.
Mugabe had ruled Zimbabwe almost unopposed since the country won independence from Britain on 20 April 1980.
But his efforts to position his wife Grace as his successor triggered fury in the military that had underpinned his regime.
His grip on power was shattered last week when the armoured military vehicles took to the streets, blockaded parliament and soldiers placed the president under house arrest in an operation that had all the hallmarks of a coup.
Global Economic Summit (GES) 2017 to be Organised in India:
India and the U.S. will jointly host the eighth annual GES, at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre, in Hyderabad, from November 28 to 30.
The NITI Aayog is taking the lead in organising this summit.
Ms Ivanka Trump, daughter and advisor to US President Donald Trump will be in India to attend the Summit.
Under the theme of “Women First, Prosperity for All,” the summit will primarily focus on Energy and Infrastructure, Healthcare and Life Sciences, Financial Technology and Digital Economy, and Media and Entertainment sectors.
Over 1600 delegates, including entrepreneurs and investors, from 160 countries are expected to participate in the three-day-summit.
DSC Prize 2017 for South Asian Literature:
Anuk Arudpragasam's story of a young man displaced by civil war in Sri Lanka was awarded the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature this weekend.
The Story of a Brief Marriage is Colombo-born Arudpragasam's debut novel and was first released in 2016 in English. The author, who writes in English and Tamil, is currently completing a dissertation in philosophy at Columbia University, according to the team behind the prize.
The DSC Prize, founded in 2010, recognizes authors of any ethnicity or nationality whose writing is about South Asia and its people. Previous winners have included Anuradha Roy (Sleeping on Jupiter), Jhumpa Lahiri (The Lowland) and Jeet Thayil (Narcopolis).
UN Passes Pakistan Sponsored Resolution on Right to Self-determination:
The UN General Assembly has unanimously passed a Pakistan-sponsored resolution reaffirming that the universal realisation of the right of peoples to self-determination was a fundamental condition for the effective guarantee and observance of human rights.
The resolution, co-sponsored by 75 countries was adopted on Thursday without a vote in the 193-member Assembly's Third Committee, which deals with social, humanitarian and cultural issues.
The resolution is expected to come up for General Assembly's endorsement next month.
Indian Oil Corporation opens India’s First Electric Vehicle Charging Station:
IOC has launched India’s first electric vehicle charging station at a petrol pump in Nagpur.
The station is in collaboration with Ola.
It’s part of Govts National Electric Mobility Plan 2013.
